Building Codes
The Building Codes Division is a vital part of the City of Athens Community Development Department. Its mission is to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare by ensuring that all construction and development within the city meets the standards set forth by adopted building codes, state law, and local ordinances.
The division is responsible for reviewing construction plans, issuing permits, and conducting inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Staff members work closely with contractors, developers, architects, and homeowners to guide projects from design through completion, making sure that every structure in Athens is safe, durable, and built to code.
