The City of Athens is pleased to announce that Athens Regional Park will remain open to the public on Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9, while scheduled paving improvements are underway.

The City previously announced that the park would be closed during paving operations. However, thanks to hours of hard work, coordination, and last-minute decision-making by City of Athens employees, plans have been adjusted to allow the park to remain open and scheduled activities to proceed.

City employees worked diligently to find a solution that would allow paving operations to continue while maintaining public access to Athens Regional Park. The City appreciates the efforts of everyone involved in making this change possible on short notice.

While the park will remain open, visitors should expect increased construction activity and potential traffic delays near the entrance to Athens Regional Park on Tuesday and Wednesday. Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution, remain alert for workers and equipment, and follow any temporary traffic directions or signage in the area.

Paving work remains weather-dependent, and the schedule may be adjusted if conditions prevent work from proceeding as planned.

Next week we anticipate firing up by 8 a.m and wrapping for the day ideally no later than 2 p.m. on both days.
