Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), the City of Athens will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, activities, or employment.
The City of Athens will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services to ensure effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally and have an opportunity to enjoy all of the City’s programs, services, and activities. The City will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs as needed to meet the requirement of the Act.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Athens, should contact the ADA Coordinator at hresources@athenstn.gov or call 423-744-2719 as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled event. Please note that depending on the nature and circumstances of the requested aid, service, or modification, additional advance notice may be required. If you have specialized needs or require more information, please contact the ADA Coordinator.
The ADA does not require the City of Athens to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
Complaints that a program, service or activity is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the ADA Coordinator at 423-744-2719 or email to hresources@athenstn.gov.
