1,170 Tires Recycled: A Community Effort to Protect Our Environment

The City of Athens is proud to announce the successful recycling of 1,170 tires through a recent community collection effort. The success of this event reflects the strength of a successful public-private partnership, bringing together local residents, public agencies, and private partners to work toward a cleaner and healthier environment here in Athens and McMinn County.

We extend our sincere thanks to the citizens of Athens and McMinn County for their participation and commitment. Community involvement is essential in addressing environmental challenges, and this event demonstrated what can be accomplished when we work together.

This initiative was made possible through the support of our valued partners, including McMinn County, Meadow Branch Landfill, the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department, and Liberty Tire Recycling.

We also recognize the outstanding efforts of our Public Works team, whose dedication and hard work ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

Recycling tires plays a critical role in protecting water quality and reducing environmental pollution. When improperly disposed of, tires can collect water, attract pests, and release harmful substances into the soil and waterways. By recycling these materials, we help prevent contamination, reduce landfill strain, and support sustainable reuse in construction and infrastructure projects.

This accomplishment is a testament to what can be achieved through partnership, planning, and community engagement. The City of Athens remains committed to initiatives that promote environmental stewardship and improve quality of life for all residents.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this successful effort.
