Welcome to the City of Athens Human Resources Department. People are at the heart of our organization, and we are committed to fostering a workplace where employees can thrive, serve, and succeed.

The City of Athens employs more than 125 full-time employees, along with seasonal and part-time staff who keep our community running strong. The Human Resources Department, led by the HR Director and supported by an HR Assistant, manages all aspects of employee services from recruitment through retirement.

The Human Resources Department oversees all employee-related functions, including:

  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and retaining top-quality employees
  • Developing and maintaining competitive compensation and classification plans
  • Administering employee benefits (medical, life, disability, vacation, sick and holiday leave, retirement, and wellness programs)
  • Maintaining accurate personnel records and timekeeping systems
  • Mediating workplace issues and conducting fair, timely investigations
  • Supporting professional development and training opportunities
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws (ADA, FMLA, EEO, FLSA)
