Fire

The Fire Department is responsible for protecting lives, property, and the environment from fire and other emergencies. The department operates two 24/7 fire stations, has an ISO rating of 2, and consists of three divisions: Administration, Prevention, and Suppression.

The Administration Division: 

  • Oversees all functions of the department including the department’s budget and personnel as well as scheduling training and exercises
  • Coordinates with the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the McMinn County 911 Center and User Committee
  • Issues burn permits
  • Issues incident reports
  • Offers first aid and CPR training
  • Offers hands-on fire extinguisher training
  • Offers tours of the fire stations
  • Arranges fire truck visits to schools, churches, and civic events
  • Distributes and installs free smoke alarms to eligible recipients

The Prevention Division: 

  • Conducts pre-fire planning reviews and inspections of new and existing structures
  • Maintains mutual aid agreements
  • Investigates fire causes
  • Conducts various community outreach programs

The Suppression Division: 

  • Responds to fire calls to control and extinguish fires
  • Responds to medical calls to provide medical services
  • Performs rescue services
  • Maintains fire hydrants
