Road Resurfacing Projects to Begin Soon
The City of Athens will begin a multi-road resurfacing project on March 23, improving several roadways across the city. The project will resurface nine roadways totaling approximately 3.94 miles as part of The Friendly City’s ongoing infrastructure improvement efforts.
The work will be completed by Rodgers Group Inc., the contractor awarded the project.
Work will be performed during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
Due to the road surface being paved from curb to curb, there will be NO PARKING allowed on these streets during the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Please be aware that vehicles parked in the path of paving may be towed.
Paving will last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.
Project Funding
The resurfacing project’s total cost is $1,683,300 and is funded through a combination of city and state sources:
- $683,853 comes from the City Capital Improvement Fund.
- $999,446 comes from a grant from the State of Tennessee.
The following roads are scheduled to be resurfaced:
- Sharp Road – from Velma Road to Railroad Avenue
- Tellico Avenue – from Congress Parkway to Astrid Street
- Dennis Street – from Congress Parkway to Decatur Pike
- Woodward Avenue – from North Jackson Street to Ingleside Avenue
- Forrest Avenue – from Ingleside Avenue to Madison Avenue
