ATHENS, TENNESSEE – December 17, 2025 – The City of Athens Public Works Department announces the following holiday closure:

The Athens Municipal Building, Public Works, and Animal Shelter will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, December 24, 25, and 26, 2025 in observance of Christmas. These facilities will re-open Monday, December 29, 2025, during regular business hours. The Recycle Center will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 24, 25, 26, and 27, 2025. The Recycle Center will re-open Monday, December 29, 2025, during regular business hours.

Residential garbage routes the week of Christmas will be as follows:
Monday, December 22 route will be picked up on Monday, December 22. (Regular schedule)
Tuesday, December 23 route will be picked up on Tuesday, December 23. (Regular schedule)
Wednesday, December 24 route will be picked up on Wednesday, December 24. (Regular schedule)
Thursday, December 25 route will be picked up on Monday, December 29.
Friday, December 26 route will be picked up on Tuesday, December 30.

Please have garbage totes to the road the night before. Additional garbage will be picked up by separate trucks. DO NOT SET EXTRA GARBAGE ON TOP OF TOTES. PLACE EXTRA GARBAGE CURBSIDE 3 FEET FROM SIDE OF TOTES TO ALLOW TRUCK ARM TO GRASP AND EMPTY TOTES.
Commercial/Industrial garbage routes the week of Christmas will be as follows:

Commercial/Industrial routes will be picked up on a limited basis.

ALL EMERGENCY SERVICES WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE ON A 24-HOUR BASIS. CONTACT MCMINN E911 COMMUNICATIONS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
