Councilmember Steven S. Sherlin was elected to the Athens City Council November 8, 2022 by the citizens of Athens. The City Council unanimously elected Councilmember Sherlin to the position of Mayor on November 15, 2022 and he served as Mayor until the next biennial election on November 19, 2024. Councilmember Sherlin serves on numerous boards and committees for the City of Athens and McMinn County. He was born and raised in Athens and is a retired Industrial Professional, former Business Owner, and retired Southern Baptist Pastor.

Steven has been married to Kathy Wilson Sherlin for over 52 years. They have three adult children, Angie, Andy, and Amy, all married and career professionals. They have five grandchildren, Jacob, Emma, Jonah, Emily, and Everleigh.
