Mayor Larry Eaton was elected November 8, 2022, to a four-year term to the Athens city council. He was born in Athens, TN and has been a lifelong resident of McMinn County. He is a born-again Christian and goes to Mt Verd Baptist church. He is Married to Melissa Eaton with two children, Nick and LeeAnn Eaton. He has two grandchildren, Liam and Ansley.

Larry attended trade school at JATC with IBEW Local 175 in Chattanooga, TN and has worked as an industrial Electrician for many years. In 2007, along with his partner, they started their own company. He services on the Arbitration Board for NECA with other boards also, is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, and a life-time member of the NRA. He is also a member of the Meridian Sun Lodge 50 in Athens. He served on the Humane Society board when the shelter was renovated and more built to accommodate the entire county.
