The following days are holidays for the employees of the City:

*Employees also receive a Floating Holiday to be used during the fiscal year.
Vacation Leave
Employees Earn Vacation Leave as Follows:
- 1st day to 3 years: Twelve (12) days
- 4 to 7 years: Fifteen (15) days annually (max 22.5 days)
- 8 to 14 years: Seventeen (17) days annually (max 26 days)
- After 15 years: Twenty (20) days annually (max 31.5 days)
Sick Leave
One (1) working day per month of service or twelve (12) days per year. A maximum of 720 hours, or ninety (90) days of sick leave may be accrued. Once an employee has been employed for 12 months and has reached a balance of 48 hours of sick leave, they may join the Employee Sick Bank which can provide additional sick leave with pay for catastrophic or unexpected illnesses or injury.
Medical Insurance
A fully funded major medical insurance program is provided and the City pays 100% of Individual Coverage and 60% of Family Coverage of the monthly premium.
Voluntary Dental Insurance
Monthly premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Voluntary Vision Insurance
Monthly premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Group Term Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)
The monthly premium is divided equally between the employee and the City of Athens.
Long Term Disability
This plan pays a monthly benefit that is designed to partially replace income lost during periods of total disability as a result of injury or illness. The monthly premiums are paid fully by the City of Athens.
Retirement
After 3 continuous years of service, an employee is vested in the City’s 401 (A) retirement plan. The City of Athens will match the employee’s mandatory contribution of 3% of annual salary and may match up to 4% of voluntary contributions.
