Code Enforcement

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Codes Enforcement Division is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Athens residents, business and property owners in the area of housing and building code enforcement of the minimum property, building and nuisance codes for existing buildings are also enforced by the department. These standards are applicable for all property within the city limits and regulate the general maintenance of property to address aspects of mowing, garbage removal, and junk. In the enforcement of these regulations a citation may be issued by the inspector for any violation and / or the City Manager may instruct the Public Works Department to clean/remove/mow and assess the cost of such action to the property owner.
