Have you ever wondered where all the brush and leaves go that are collected by the City? They are stock piled at Public Works until the "Chipper" returns. The Chipper comes once a month and grinds the brush into mulch that is provided free of charge to the public.

To receive a load of mulch is simple:

  • Call to see if Public Works will be loading on that particular day
  • Bring your vehicle and a tarp to Public Works at 2:50 PM
  • Come in to the office to sign in
  • State if you need wood mulch or leaf mulch
  • After loaded, clean off excess mulch from bumper and side rails
  • Secure tarp over the mulch (Police will write tickets to anyone with a load not covered)
  • Please no dump trucks, nursery vendors, or landscaping contractors
  • This mulch is free to the public and should not be used for resale purposes in anyway

If you have questions, please call Public Works at (423) 744-2745 or email publicworks@cityofathenstn.com.

If you send an email or you receive an answer machine, please give your name, address, and phone number.
